On May 13, 2008, Keystone SMILES proudly established the Michael Andrew Renfrew Memorial Preschool Scholarship.
Michael was the 4-year old son of Randall and Lisa Renfrew, a Keystone SMILES AmeriCorps Alumni. Michael was killed in a tragic accident on the family farm on April 1, 2001. The fund will be used to annually award scholarships to preschool students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a preschool program. The heroic and unselfish act of Ross McGinnis has touched the lives of many people in Clarion County and neighboring communities. Ross’ patriotism and sacrifice earned him The  Medal of Honor, a Purple Heart and a Silver Star for Valor.

Another tribute to his valor occurred on Wednesday, December 13th, 2006 when a Keystone SMILES AmeriCorps Alum chose to contribute to Ross’ legacy, which can now live on through other service focused deeds of individuals. The Alum’s donation of $5000 established the beginning of a memorial endowment fund.    The first Scholarships were awarded in December of 2007.

The second annual Ross McGinnis Memorial Service Awards will be awarded in December 2008.  Applications are now being accepted.  Application and applicant requirements are listed below.   Applications must be postmarked November 1, 2008.
