Joshua Lencer, 2012 Executive Merit Award

Joshua Lencer, a senior at Keystone High School has volunteered over 1,100 hours to his community in a variety of ways.  He has volunteered at athletic camps for elementary children, served as an usher, altar boy and Eucharistic minister at his church, and attained the lofty status as an Eagle Scout completing an extensive service project. For his project, he transformed the perimeter of an unsightly gravel parking lot by planning, developing and installing timber-edged beds trimmed with daylilies.  Josh consulted with community leaders, made several fundraising appeals, engaged the support of the community, and recruited volunteers to complete this project.  After the tragic loss of a very close friend, Josh spent many long days assisting the family in the up-keep of their everyday chores and responsibilities.  This life-changing experience brought to light the importance of service which fuels Josh’s continued community involvement.  Josh plans to attend Pittsburgh Technical Institute in the Fall of 2012.
