House of Trades Projects Focus in Clarion and Venango Counties

House of Trades/ YouthBuild Project

This program provides young adults, 16-24, the opportunity to gain academic, occupational and employment skills to attain self-sufficiency and a competitive advantage in securing a GED or high school diploma, employment and a brighter future by engaging them in home renovations that provide affordable housing for low income families.

Keystone SMILES has been designated a YouthBuild USA Affiliate providing opportunities for youth in Clarion, Mercer and Venango Counties. Youth receive a stipend and education award. Four renovations have been completed to date.

Program’s Mission

Keystone SMILES House of Trades, YouthBuild mission is to take young adults between the ages of 16-24, and help them acquire marketable skills within the construction trades field. While guiding them to their full potential, Members are able to participate in meaningful Service-Learning projects within their the local communities.

Program Description

Serving a committed schedule at various locations to take blemished properties within the local communities and put them back on the tax rolls. Through this participants will acquire skills with hand and power tools used within the construction field that can help assist in future employment opportunities. Potential of obtaining intro-certifications in rough and finish Carpentry, painting, landscaping, plumbing, electrical, roofing, HVAC, etc.
